5 Tips for Keeping Your Child Engaged and Active This Summer

There are plenty of activities our kids can engage in and things we can do as parents to keep our children active and educated this summer. While in school, your children undergo regular social, educational, and physical activities that they may lose over the summer, something that can be detrimental to their development. Luckily, there are many ways we can ensure they don’t lose these mental and physical skills they earned the school year before.

Tip #1: Utilize Clubs and Camp programs

Clubs and camps are a great way to keep your kids active and social throughout the day, especially if you work full-time and understandably can’t be there during the day. This kind of activity gets them active and outside with other kids, teaching them skills and ensuring they’re staying on top of their development outside of school.

Tip #2: Join Evening Sports

If daytime clubs and camps don’t work with your schedule, evening sports can help. Many programs, including baseball and swim teams, practice at night and have games/meets on the weekends. This can help you work around your schedule while ensuring your children are still getting out of the house regularly.

Tip #3: Weekend Tutoring

If you’re worried about your child falling behind in school over the summer, as many children do because of a lack of the educational routine they have in school, weekend tutoring can help. There are numerous programs that offer tutoring services to kids on the weekends and in the evenings in order to keep children educated while working around parents’ work schedules. Be sure to check these programs out!

Tip #4: Lots of Family Time

Your children have a lot more free time when they’re out of school. This is the perfect time to incorporate more family time, which can help your children be active and bond with their siblings, cousins, parents, and more.

Tip #5: Limited Screen Time

Because children have so much more free time, they may spend much more time using tablets and computers or watching TV. Try limiting their screen time and encourage other activities, such as writing, drawing, or reading instead.
